Welcome to the 2013 Oregon Youth Photo Contest!
Health \helth\ (noun) 1. A state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. ~ World Health Organization
As part of Oregon Public Health Week, Northwest Health Foundation and the Oregon Public Health Division are pleased to sponsor the 2013 Oregon Youth Photo Contest.
The contest opens on April 1, 2013 and closes on April 28, 2013 at 11:59pm.
2013 Theme: Health Beginnings / Healthy Communities
The theme of the 2013 contest is the interconnection between healthy beginnings and healthy communities. We know that ensuring prevention early on - healthy babies, healthy children, healthy youth, is critical to ensuring good community health for everyone.
We also know that, conversely, communities themselves need to be “healthy” in order to ensure a healthy start for everyone.
Using the lens of your camera, we’d like you to show us what a healthy community that supports preventive health for children and youth looks like.
Or what it doesn’t look like.
What do you see around you that helps ensure the conditions of good population health, starting with babies, kids, and youth?
Or, if you prefer, what do you see around you in your community that prevents children and youth from having the best chance at good health?
What could I win?
The following prizes will be awarded:
1st Prize $300
2nd Prize $200
3rd Prize $100
What are the rules for the contest?
- You are age 12 - 18 on April 28, 2013.
- You live in Oregon.
- Your entry is an original photo taken in Oregon.
- Only one entry per person
- The file format is JPG format, minimum of 4 megapixels.
- You must include your name in the image’s filename (i.e. janedoe1.jpeg).
- Both a title and caption for your photo will be required. While a title provides a short description or introduction to your picture, a caption of 50 words or less will tell us how your photo speaks to a healthier Oregon.
- By submitting a photo, you agree that this is an original photo that you have taken, and that Northwest Health Foundation may use your photo for future, non-commercial purposes.
- The photographer will take full responsibility for the content of the photo.
How will my photo be judged?
Your photo will be judged on how well your photo, title and caption captures health. A panel of judges comprised of youth, government public health officers and employees from Oregon companies and nonprofits will select winners in early May 2013. Judging will be based on 5 categories:
- Overall Impact - Of the health message
- Creativity/Originality - Originality of your overall message
- Artistry/Composition - Visual quality of the photograph
- Expression of theme - Connection of your photo to the contest theme
- Presentation - How you present your caption, including spelling and punctuation of title & caption
