Healthy Eating, Active Living
The Northwest Health Foundation will not be able to release a competitive Request for Proposals through our Healthy Eating Active Living program area this year. We will continue to advocate for policies that enable improved physical activity and nutrition, particularly among youth, low income communities and communities of color. We will also offer funding opportunities through the Kaiser Permanente Community Fund, and explore ways to make smaller, strategic investments that have the potential to leverage additional resources to create more equitable opportunities for healthy behaviors.
For more information on this program, please contact Chris Kabel, program officer.
You may also wish to explore funding opportunities with the growing number of grantmakers who are interested in advancing policies and creating environments that provide greater opportunities for healthy eating and active living. Locally, these include the Nike Employee Grant Fund at the Oregon Community Foundation, the Community Health Initiative at Kaiser Permanente Northwest, and several other private foundations and trusts. Nationally, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has several grant programs that address this issue, and other major funders such as the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and the Kresge Foundation have made substantial investments in creating healthier communities.
