Welcome to the Conversation on Health
As Thomas Aschenbrener wrote in his April 3, 2008 Oregonian Editorial, chances are you’re responsible when it comes to your own health. You probably follow a pretty good diet and exercise plan, and at least you try to get enough sleep. You probably don’t smoke or drink too much. You even have somewhat regular checkups at the doctor.
But if this is all true, chances are you live in a certain type of neighborhood. You also most likely have more than a high school education. And the information you have received about living a healthy life has probably been acted upon because your social environment has made it realtively easier for you to make those healthy choices.
The fact is, we can tell people to make responsible choices, but until we come together to make societal changes that make these choices easier, we won’t make much difference in improving the health of everyone.
Do you agree with all this? We want to hear from you.
Do you disagree? We really want to hear from you.
Because discourse is the first step toward improvement, that’s what this blog, and this website, are all about.
