Oregon’s Healthcare Transformation Work Continues
By Craig Mosbaek, CHP Contributor
Governing Magazine just published an interview with Mike Bonetto, Governor Kitzhaber’s top health adviser. In the interview, Bonetto explains some of the concepts and values behind HB 3650 and the state’s transformation of healthcare delivery. The State of Oregon provides health insurance to almost one million people, including Medicaid participants, state public employees, and educators.
One of the reasons Bonetto entered the policy arena was to encourage the use of data in inform policy decisions. He also discusses the importance of incentivizing healthcare providers to improve patient outcomes and reduce costs. In this current work, Bonetto draws on his previous experience at HealthMatters of Central Oregon.
Governor Kitzhaber recently announced the appointment of members to four committees that will help design the implementation of HB 3650 and the creation of Coordinated Care Organizations across the state. The Oregon Health Authority has produced an eight-page summary of HB 3650.
The Oregon Health Authority provides many ways to stay up to date on the healthcare transformation, including an email list and a calendar of upcoming meetings.
