again, i am looking at this in the context of violence.  the way the current system is set-up is that we wait until someone is in an emergent situation and then we react.  there is little to no funding for preventative programs.  we need to be getting information out to the school from kindergarten on up!  teaching youth how to communicate in a healthy successful way - talk about domestic and sexual violence in age appropriate manner.  let’s give people the skills and tools they need to have successful healthy relationships.

Education is the life saver. Education is essential to prevention, treatment and maintenance in any situation. Often times in life, we say, “if we had only known”. That comes from lack of education of a certain situation. Suicide prevention is all about education.
Recently, a young mother had an abnormal blood test for fetal anomaly. It turned out that the baby wasn’t mentally challenged, but needed a liver transplant. More education in this matter would have had faster results for this family.
Addictions are often treated with jail time and without the proper education and intervention, the addict becomes trapped in a roller coaster of jails, institutions, and eventually death. The same could be said for child abuse. Our organization “Strengthening Rural Families” helps parents and children get education to help in these situations and so much more

I wholeheartedly agree.  Consume less is the way to go.  Esp less processed, unnatural items.  It’s a known fact now that breastfeeding is best so why do so many low income women opt out and get vouchers from WIC for formula?  often because they lack support from friends, family and sadly even from our health care industry.  We at NMC are here to help support moms in giving babies the most healthy start possible.  Let’s work towards prevention.  In the case of breastfeeding it’s at least 3x cheaper in the immediate term… and can save us even more in long term health care costs.

It’s healthcare - it should do both!  And the best way to be preventative is to encourage folks to consume less!  Less stuff, smaller meals, don’t buy some stupid exercise equipment - just take a walk!  I am convinced that our society’s emphasis on buying, purchasing, owning, is bad for the society, for mental health and for every kind of health…
