NY Times Addresses Environmental Causes of Obesity

The New York Times has now reported on how we perceive obesity now as environmentally affected, and not just about personal responsibility and education. While the public health community has known this for a long time, this piece, including research from the Lancet out of the UK, provides some good information about how we got here and what it might take to get us out of this mess.

“As has happened with smoking,” Jane Brody writes, “it will take many years, a slew of different tactics and the political will to overcome powerful lobbying by culpable industries to turn the problem around and begin to bring the prevalence of overweight and obesity back to the levels of the 1970s.”

Thank you for providing this interesting post.I think those kind of things are only myths because obesity is a disease or a result eating a lot of unhealthy food so I don’t think that climate changes could make us obese.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), this is due to human activity resulting in the production of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and the waste oil collection. There has been a rise in average air and sea temperatures, and the melting of snow and ice has caused a rise in global average sea level.

I believe that it’s time to put some order in our lives, to reduce belongings of all kind. We must take it easy and it doesn’t matter that it will take us years, as it happened with the smoking. We must learn how to live healthy again.
