Join Us in Salem for a Public Health Walk on April 6

As part of National Public Health Week 2009, Oregon’s Public Health Activities include a short walk around the Salem Capitol on Monday April 6. Come join legislators, public health advocates, and community organizations.

You might even invite your legislator to a “walking meeting” to discuss issues in your district.

Participants will stroll about one mile together through the “built environment” around the State Capitol. Does it encourage walking? We’ll find out!

Every community in Oregon should have safe and accessible places for its citizens to walk to help maintain their health. Oregon ranks in the bottom tier of the states with the worst rates of obesity and physical activity per capita so finding ways to boost people’s physical activity is important.

Time:  Noon – 1 p.m. (approximately, dependent upon the day’s legislative proceedings)
Location: Meet at State Capitol steps, Salem, OR
Sponsored by: Northwest Health Foundation – Community Health Priorities
