We Can! (Ways to Enhance Children’s Activity & Nutrition) is a fast-growing national movement of families and communities coming together to promote healthy weight in children ages 8 through 13 through improved food choices, increased physical activity, and reduced screen time.
Participants in this two-day training will learn:
How people like can successfully implement the We Can! program, as well as take advantage of the experiences gained from numerous settings throughout the United States.
How to present 2 of 3 youth programs:
CATCH Kids Club (Coordinated Approach to Child Health)
Afterschool program for elementary school age children
S.M.A.R.T. (Student Media Awareness to Reduce Television)
In-school program for 3rd and 4th grade children
Media-Smart Youth: Eat, Think, Be Active!
Afterschool program for young people ages 11 to 13
Who should attend:
Those who work or volunteer with afterschool programs, schools, PTAs, 4-H clubs, other youth-serving organizations, public health programs, nutrition education programs, hospitals/health care systems, faith-based organizations, worksite wellness programs and anyone else who wants to help prevent childhood obesity.
CEUs – Pending approval, 10.5 CEUs will be available from the American Dietetic Association.
If you are not able to attend the Pacific Northwest training, please consider registering for any of the other regional trainings available throughout the year.

Coalition for a Livable Future’s Regional Livability Summit

CLF’s Livability Summit is an opportunity for Portland-Vancouver residents to showcase innovative ideas and work to create healthy, sustainable and inclusive communities. More than a conference, the Summit yields product in the form of deeper understanding of issues, better collaborative organizing and better tools for organizing genuine, positive change. The International Conference on Clinical Ethics Consultation

Northwest Health Foundation is proud to sponsor the International Conference on Clinical Ethics Consultation. The event will feature more than 150 presenters from 27 countries.
The International Conference on Clinical Ethics Consultation series (ICCEC), which this year being held in conjunction with the International Society for Clinical Bioethics (ISCB), was founded by George Agich, PhD and Professor Dr. Stella Reiter-Theil to fill the significant gap that they perceived in the field between the explosion of clinical ethics, ethics committees, and ethics consultation services around the world and the relative lack of critical and academic discussion of the many practical, institutional, and ethical issues associated with this work. The first conference was held in 2003 at the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio. Subsequent conferences have been held at the University of Basel, Switzerland in 2005, Toronto, Canada in 2007, Rijeka, Croatia in 2008 and Taipei, Taiwan in 2009.
Each conference is organized by a local host, who oversees local arrangements. For the 2010 conference, the local host will be the Providence Center for Health Care Ethics in Portland, Oregon, USA.
The theme for the 2010 conference is “the art of ethics,” to reflect the reality that clinical ethics consultation, like clinical practice, is both an art and a science. It also reflects the principle venue for the Conference: the Portland Art Museum. The conference logo is taken from the Center’s graphic depicting model for clinical ethics consultation: The pallet and brush represent the artistry of doing ethics. The colors and designs in the pallet reflect the importance roles of clinical integrity (caduseus), beneficence (hands), autonomy (people) and justice (scales) in doing clinical ethics consultation.

Community-Campus Partnerships for Health

Northwest Health Foundation is a major partner for the eleventh annual conference for Community-Campus Partnerships for Health taking place from May 12-15, 2010 in Portland and we invite you to share your knowledge, wisdom and experience! You are encouraged to submit a proposal for a session or poster presentation at the conference.
The conference, “Creating the Future We Want to Be: Transformation through Partnerships” promises to be CCPH’s best yet as hundreds of community and campus partners convene for 4 days of skill-building, networking and agenda-setting! Whether you are new to community-based participatory research (CBPR), service-learning or community-campus partnerships and looking for basics to get started, or have been involved for years and seeking more advanced knowledge and connections, this is one conference you will not want to miss!
With its focus on Creating the Future We Want to Be, the conference seeks to empower individuals and partnerships to create a just and sustainable future, so that we need not be passive participants in the status quo or mere witnesses to the change determined by others. With its focus on Transformation through Partnerships, the conference seeks to highlight the power of partnerships to lead and inspire transformation at all levels.
