Portland Mayoral Candidate Forum on Active Transportation

The Portland State University Planning club is presenting a Mayoral Candidate Forum on Active Transportation, featuring candidates Eileen Brady, Charlie Hales, and Jefferson Smith. The host for the forum will be Lawrence Wallack, Dean of Portland State University’s College of Urban and Public Affairs, and Sarah Mirk, Portland Mercury Reporter. Event sponsors include Upstream Public Health, Bicycle Transportation Alliance, and Coalition for a Livable Future, among others.
The forum is Monday, February 6 at 7 pm in Portland State University’s Lincoln Hall, 1620 SW Park Avenue. The forum is free, and more information can be found here.
NW Environmental Health Conference

The theme of the Fourth Annual NW Environmental Health Conference will be Bridging Research, Practice, and Policy. The conference will host leading scientists, researchers, and health professionals and include discussion of the interrelationship between the environment and health and healthcare practices. The Northwest Health Foundation is one of the conference sponsors.
The conference is Friday, February 10, 8am-4pm, at the University Place Hotel (310 SW Lincoln Street) in Portland. Regular registration fees are $60, and $30 for students. For more information or to register, click here.
Oregon Health Dialogue Update on Coordinated Care Organizations

The Oregon Coalition of Health Care Purchasers is hosting Oregon Health Dialogue Post-Legislative Update on the Coordinated Care Organizations. Panelists include:

National Health Impact Assessment Meeting

The Inaugural National Health Impact Assessment Meeting will be held this spring in Washington, DC. Conference sponsors include the Pew Charitable Trusts, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the National Network of Public Health Institutes. This meeting is designed for “...current HIA [Health Impact Assessment] practitioners; public health and health policy professionals; community-based organizations; researchers; elected officials and their staff; and decision makers from non-health agencies who might use or rely on the results of an HIA, such as planning, transportation, housing, agriculture, energy, environment and education.”
The meeting is April 3-4 at the Renaissance Washington in downtown Washington, DC. Regular registration fees are $100, student fees are $60, and fees will be waived for all presenters. For more information and to register, click here.
Weight of the Nation conference in Washington, DC

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is hosting an obesity prevention conference, Weight of the Nation: Moving Forward, Reversing the Trend. The conference is designed to highlight progress in the prevention and control of obesity through policy and environmental strategies. Attendees will include elected and appointed public policy makers; federal, state and local public health leaders; as well as partners and researchers engaged in policy related obesity prevention and control initiatives.
