What can Public Health Institutes do for my Health Department? That question will be answered in this webinar sponsored by the National Network of Public Health Institutes and the Public Health Institute. Public health institutes are nonprofit organizations that work to improve the capacity of the public health system by building partnerships across sectors, leveraging resources, and fostering innovation,. The webinar will discuss strategies for local and state health departments to work effectively with public health institutes.

Sugary Drinks Summit (Washington, DC)

The Center for Science in the Public Interest is hosting the Sugary Drinks Summit of 2012, a national advocacy conference to strengthen initiatives to reduce sugary-drink consumption. Summit participants will include researchers, government officials, legislators, health professionals, low-income and minority advocates, youth activists, consumer groups, faith-based organizations, health insurers, and business leaders. Portland Sunday Parkways
June 24th, 2012
The next Portland Sunday Parkways will be June 24 in North Portland. During Sunday Parkways, a route through city streets is free of cars so that walkers, runners, bicyclists, mobility device users, seniors, adults, and children can enjoy a day of healthy physical activities. The routes are 7-10 miles long, and participants can start or stop whenever and wherever they want. Each event is 11 am - 4 pm. The Northwest Health Foundation is proud to be one of the event sponsors again this year. Here are the Sunday Parkways still ahead in 2012:
June 24 - North
July 22 - Southwest
August 26 - Southeast
September 30 - East

APHA Mid-year Meeting in Charlotte, NC
June 26th, 2012 - June 28th, 2012
The American Public Health Association (APHA) is holding its mid-year meeting: The New Public Health – Rewiring for the Future. Sessions will focus on how the public health system can position itself to address the changing needs for population health. The meeting is June 26-28 in Charlotte, NC.
