Thomas works collaboratively with the Northwest Health Foundation Board of Directors to establish the vision and strategic direction for the Foundation. As president, he manages the professional staff charged with implementing the Foundation’s strategic plan.

Prior to joining the Foundation, which was organized under his leadership in 1997, he founded and operated a company that advised individuals and families on charitable giving. He also consulted with corporations and organizations establishing philanthropic foundations. Thomas was founder and director of the physician assistant program at the University of Iowa School of Medicine, and has been a grants program officer in the federal government’s Division of Medicine, director of the governor of Georgia’s statewide health coordinating council, director of professional affairs at the American Podiatric Medical Association and vice president for institutional advancement at the California College of Podiatric Medicine.

Thomas holds a master’s degree in medical education from the University of Illinois, where he was a Kellogg Foundation fellow, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa. He is also a graduate of the physician assistant training program at Duke University.

Some time ago, Thomas lived and worked on a farm in Virginia, which is where this picture was taken.
